Nintendo Shares More Zelda Direct Details

Last week, Nintendo announced two Nintendo Direct presentations would be airing over the next few days. One would be a Legend of Zelda specific one dedicated to the series’ 40th anniversary, while the other would be a more general Nintendo one focused on Switch 2 games as a whole.

This led to a lot of speculation about how much the former might focus on the Ocarina of Time remake. Whether it being their big 2026 game meant it’d get all the coverage in the actual presentation.

But now Nintendo have provided an update on the matter. Well, in Japanese anyway. Here’s the tweet they posted earlier today:

This roughly translates to:

We will be streaming the “The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct 2026.9.8” tomorrow, Tuesday, September 8, at 11:00 PM.
We will share details regarding non-game initiatives for the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, as well as information on the Nintendo Switch 2 title *The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time*.

So, there’s definitely going to be a focus on the remake for sure. They wouldn’t have included it in the message otherwise.

But it won’t be the only thing. Other Zelda initiatives will be discussed in the presentation, including those for non-video game related subjects.

Which in turn basically confirms the following:

The Legend of Zelda movie is showing up in the presentation.

Yeah, it’s the other big work in the series this coming year, and Nintendo’s main focus for the franchise in 2027. What’s more, Sony (who are working on the film alongside Nintendo) have even just registered the domain name for the film:

Hence the marketing efforts for it are certainly being dialled up about now. It’s got a new domain name, it’s due for release in under 6 months, and there’s a big Nintendo Direct about the Zelda franchise airing tomorrow. It could not be more obvious that this film is entering its marketing phase.

But despite the two things above being the main focus, there is also another interesting possibility this tweet might be hinting at. The Legend of Zelda at Super Nintendo World.

Because we know Nintendo wants to expand beyond Mario there. There are clear references to other franchises already, including giant stained glass windows featuring Zelda characters near the gift shop.

So, it’s almost inevitable that Zelda is the next big focus for Nintendo and Universal. That their push into merch and real-life events for the series is going to culminate in theme park rides and attractions.

And hence it’s possible such an announcement will be in the upcoming Direct. Eh, fingers crossed!

Regardless, that’s Nintendo’s update about the Legend of Zelda Direct, and what it both confirms and implies will be included in it. So, what do you think? Are there any other things you expect to see in the presentation? How much of a focus will non-game related announcements have here?
