Ever since Super Smash Bros Ultimate launched back in December 2018, the game has seen regular Spirit Board events based on other franchises. These events add Spirits based on otherwise unrepresented games and series to the game, and have previously included everything from Pokemon Sword and Shield to Astral Chain and Cuphead.

And now it seems Paper Mario: The Origami King is getting the same treatment. Here are Nintendo’s official posts about it courtesy of the Japanese Super Smash Bros Twitter account:

As you can see, Origami Peach, Olivia and King Olly are represented by Princess Peach, Pikachu and Toon Link respectively, with other characters and assist trophies matching those found in the game aiding them in battle. They’re also quite middle of the road in terms of power levels too, with Peach being a Novice, Olivia being an Advanced spirit and King Olly being an Ace respectively.

They’ll be available to battle from August 28th (this Friday), with the event running for an additional 5 days after that.

Regardless, they’re neat to see in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, especially given the lack of Paper Mario representation in much of the series as a whole.

However, not everyone is too pleased by this.

No, quite a few Paper Mario fans are a tad disappointed that this spirit event exists. According to them, the presence of an event like this means the chances of Paper Mario getting in as a playable character are now slim to none, and that things like the amazing soundtrack from the last game are unlikely to make it in as a result.

And that’s definitely a shame. The boss themes in Paper Mario: The Origiami King are especially amazing to listen to, and any of them would work amazingly in Super Smash Bros Ultimate too:

But it is what it is. It’s a Paper Mario themed Spirit Board event, and it’s still far more than we ever expected Nintendo to give us for Paper Mario content in this series.
