Wave 6 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC Is Coming Soon!

Well folks, it’s nearly here! On the 9th of September, we’re getting the final wave of DLC in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass, complete with more tracks, characters and features. Here’s the trailer showing it in action:

As you can see, it’s more interesting than expected too. Why? Because out of nowhere, Nintendo seems to have decided that Piranha Plant Pipeline won’t be included in the Booster Course Pass.

And that’s a huge omission considering the rest of the DLC tracks included here. Indeed, with every other new track from Tour (city and otherwise) being included, it feels strange to leave out this particular one.

Did they decide two Piranha Plant tracks were too much for one wave? Realised that something about Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s camera system didn’t work with the pipe-based design? Have better ideas for the track that could only be realised in Mario Kart 9?

Honestly, we’re not sure.

Regardless, the track choices are a good set so far. You’ve got the climactic finale on Rainbow Road, thanks to the Wii Rainbow Road remake. You’ve got some of the best retro tracks around, like DK Mountain, and you’ve got some underrated gems that seem to have got a touch up, like Bowser’s Castle 3 and Rosalina’s Ice World.

So, as far as track content goes, it’s pretty good. You lose one obvious track, but gain a few other fan favourites in return.

And the extra features seem pretty solid too. Why? Because unbeknownst to those who’ve only seen the video, the update also includes new Mii costumes and a sound test too. Hence if you want to listen to your favourite songs at any time, well that’ll soon be possible. It’s a good addition, and with a soundtrack this good, one we’re surprised took so long to get added to the game.

Seems like Cheep Cheep, Tower, Dolphin and Biddybud ones are included here…

Regardless, that’s wave 6 for you, and it’s coming out next Thursday. So what do you think of it? Are you excited to try out all these new tracks and features? What are your opinions on Piranha Plant Pipeline failing to make the cut for the DLC?
