Well folks, it’s here! The 4th wave of DLC for the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass has now been released, complete with Birdo as a new character and 8 new tracks.
And to say it’s impressive might be a bit of an understatement. Why?
Because these are some of the best tracks Nintendo has ever made. You’ve got an amazing Yoshi’s Island track with a huge variety of locales to race through, plus numerous references to the original SNES game (down to the race ending music and sound effects even!), three of the best Tour city tracks ever made, and a smorgasbord of different retros with surprisingly fancy textures and neat layout changes.
It’s an incredible collection, and compared to the joke that was wave 1, shows how much better the DLC is getting with every release.
Yet despite all this, there was one question on our mind. That being… would this wave give us any more insight into future additions to the game?
Would dataminers find evidence of tracks or characters coming to later waves?
Surprisingly, the answer is yes, albeit not in the way you’d believe.
Since the character select screen has not only been updated to add Birdo, but 5 more slots for upcoming characters. As a result, we now know that at least 6 new characters are being added to the game.
It’s a pretty good number if you ask us, especially given it likely indicates the next two waves are getting multiple newcomers at a time. So, if you want to play as Diddy Kong again (or perhaps the likes of Pauline, Petey Piranha, Funky Kong, etc), you should be set here. They’re adding enough extra characters to fill out the roster, and it’s great to see.
Either way, the DLC is out now. So, if you’re a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe player, download it and play as soon as possible…
