Super Mario Galaxy 2 Update Adds Storybook Chapter

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Update Adds Storybook Chapter

Jeez, Nintendo sure is random when it comes to updates, aren’t they? Indeed, whether it’s adding Dixie Kong to Donkey Kong Country Returns HD or updating Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with the Booster Course Pass a decade later, it’s clear the company has a tendency to just randomly announce updates for long-dead games at the drop of a hat. Forget day 1 DLC, where Nintendo is concerned, year 100 DLC is still on the table!

With that pattern only continuing today. Why? Because absolutely out of nowhere, they’ve added a new chapter to Rosalina’s storybook in the Switch port of Super Mario Galaxy 2. Here’s the full chapter, for those that can’t or won’t update the game:

Yeah, it’s definitely not related to the Super Mario Galaxy Movie, that’s for sure. Instead, it’s an update to Mari and Lu’s backstory from the Super Mario Galaxy 2 storybook, and an explanation for the Garden dome’s constant daylight in the original Super Mario Galaxy.

Still, it’s lovely to see nonetheless. The new artwork looks as amazing as you’d expect here, the story is a heartwarming addition that adds a bit of character to the games, and heck, they even reference an old piece of Rosalina concept art originally saved for the Super Mario Galaxy 2 soundtrack:

That said, the extra chapter isn’t the only addition here. No, the new music is now on Nintendo Music too. So, if you want to listen to the song from this ‘epilogue’, you can at least hear it officially in the app now. That’s a pretty quick turnaround for sure!

And other things have been updated in the game as well. For example, an infamous lighting glitch in the Tall Trunk Galaxy has now finally been fixed:

Plus, there may be some RNG changes too. Apparently, a few folks on the Luma’s Workshop modding server have noticed instances where randomised content isn’t quite as random as it probably should be now. So, it’s possible Nintendo broke something else while making these fixes here.

Still, for the most part, the update works well and adds what it needs to. So, what are your thoughts on it? Are you happy to see a new storybook chapter? What other changes have you noticed in the latest version of Super Mario Galaxy 2 on Switch?
