Edit: Seems like while the PC port is 100% human-coded, the decomp itself may not be.
It’s been a while, but the original Super Mario Galaxy has now been 100% decompiled. Indeed, as pointed out by various people in the community, the decompilation project has now reached 100% code coverage, indicating that the entire game is now understood:

It’s big news for modders and PC port developers for sure. Now making sweeping changes to Super Mario Galaxy is a lot easier and more efficient, and so is getting it working on other hardware. And speaking of which…

Yeah the community is already working on a PC port of the game. Named AstroCore and powered by Aurora, this is an AI-free, fully PC native version of the game in development by folks from the Luma’s Workshop Discord server. So, the very people involved in the sub series’ best mods (like Super Mario Gravity, Super Mario Starshine and Neo Mario Galaxy) are also the ones working on the PC version of the first game too.
Oh, and Super Mario Galaxy? Yeah, the community is apparently moving onto decompiling that one after doing some last minute cleanup here. Hence it’s pretty likely that both games will be fully understood within the next few years or so.
So, good news Mario fans. Super Mario Galaxy has now been fully decompiled, a PC port is in development, and the folks working on these projects have apparently managed to create them without any need for AI or vibe-coding. Let’s see what crazy mods and console ports these new projects will bring to the table.
