It’s the end of an era Pokémon fans! Indeed, earlier today, the Pokémon Company announced that Pokémon Bank (the system used for transferring Pokemon from the 3DS games), would be discontinued on the 26th of February 2027.
This means that anyone who hasn’t transferred their Pokémon from those games to Pokemon HOME has approximately 6 months to do so before they’re stuck on those games forever.
Yeah, there’s not much time left, Pokémon fans! At least if you want an official way to bring your 3DS era teams to the current titles.
Still, while the Bank shutdown isn’t the brightest news in the world, there was a happier announcement posted the same day. That being, the Switch rereleases of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen will be getting Pokémon HOME support this October!
So, if you bought those rereleases back in February, you’ll soon be able to transfer your teams from them over to games like Scarlet and Violet and Winds & Waves. It’s only a one way trip from what the folks at Serebii have learned (so you may want to make sure they’re not needed for any side content in the gen 3 games), but it’s neat to see nonetheless.
Additionally, the number of Pokemon you’ll be able to store in Pokémon HOME will also increase on the same date too. Indeed, while premium subscribers could only store up to 6,000 Pokémon there before, this limit will be increased to 9,000 starting this October.
Add this to the ability to receive a free Celebi for completing the Pokedex in these games, and well, there’s a lot to like here as well, even if the Pokémon Bank shutdown isn’t ideal.
Regardless, that’s the latest from the Pokémon series. Pokémon Bank is being discontinued next year, while the gen 3 rereleases are being made compatible with Pokémon HOME this October.
