Paper Mario: The Origami King Has Now Been Updated to Version 1.0.1

As you may know, quite a few game breaking bugs were recently found in Paper Mario: The Origami King. These included a glitch that left the play unable to progress in the Spring of Rainbows, one that made it impossible to save a certain Toad in Shroom City plus various other issues with adverse effects on these game.

These bugs all made either completing the game or getting 100% completion impossible, and drastically hurt the gameplay experience for many thousands of players.

Fortunately though, many of these issues have now fixed. Why? Because earlier today, Nintendo released an update for the game. This update bumps the game’s version number up to version 1.0.1, and fixes many of said bugs in the process. Here’s a full list of changes courtesy of the patch notes on the official website:

  • Fixed an issue in which you would be unable to enter the Spring of Rainbows in Shangri-Spa.
Note: If you have already encountered this issue, you will now be able to proceed normally.
  • Fixed an issue in which players were unable to hit the Toad on top of the fountain in Shroom City.
Note: If you have already encountered this issue, you will now be able to proceed normally.
  • Fixed an issue where Black Shy Guy would not be registered in the Gallery of the Musée Champignon—even if you have previously defeated one.
Note: If you have already encountered this issue, return to Scorching Sandpaper West after the sun has returned and defeat Black Shy Guy once more to add him to your Gallery.
  • Fixed an issue in the Ninja Attraction in which, depending on the state of the player, certain Ninji enemies were undefeatable and halted progression.
Note: If you have already encountered this issue, you will now be able to proceed normally.
  • Fixed an issue in which the game would occasionally hard lock in the Rubber Band boss battle.
  • Fixed an issue in the Battle Lab in which the score would not be properly registered after solving 33 or more lineups in Speed Rings in the Ring Trainer.
Note: Previously registered scores will not change. New scores will be registered correctly after downloading this update data.
  • Fixed an issue in which you could obtain an item from outside of a certain coffin in the Temple of Shrooms. This fix also corrects a related error involving hints from the Love Toad in Toad Town.
Note: If you’ve already obtained the item from outside of the coffin, the Love Toad’s hint error will be resolved.
  • Fixed an issue in Overlook Mountain in which the event of looking up at Overlook Tower would occasionally occur from the bottom of the hill.

As you can see, that’s quite the list of bug fixes there. Indeed, it’s such a lenthy list that it contains virtually every bug covered in the mainstream media, plus a whole host of others we didn’t even know existed.

Pretty impressive for the game’s first update, we must say.

Yet there’s still work to be done. For instance, the Boss Sumo Bro freeze glitch is still a problem, and that issue has been present in the game since the very beginning.

And so have quite a few other major bugs posted on Reddit. These include a bug in the Sea Tower where a certain platform doesn’t move, a bug in the Paper Mistake Buzzy Beetle fight where the game softlocks after the battle, plus potentially a fair few others that can either freeze the game or ruin your save file.

So it’s likely we’ll need a second update sooner or later. Probably sooner given Nintendo’s speed in releasing this one.

Still, what do you think of the update? Are you happy to see all these issues fixed in it? Or do you wish Nintendo had also taken care of a few other game breaking glitches in the game too?
