Ever since the Nintendo Music app launched in 2024, Paper Mario games have become a common fixture on the service. Paper Mario: The Origami King was added in February 2026, with 263 tracks. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door was added on October 2026, with 386 tracks between the two versions.
And now the Nintendo 64 Paper Mario game has had its own soundtrack added too. Here’s the announcement about it from Nintendo on Twitter (archived on Bluesky):

Yeah, it’s a pretty good addition. You’ve got 148 tracks to listen to (97 of which are in the top tracks playlist), including such classics as Attack of the Koopa Bros, Ghost Gulping and Freeze.
But not all is fine in the world of Paper Mario music on Nintendo Music. No, while the soundtrack is mostly complete, there are some surprising omissions.
Like say, the partner join themes. The ‘Nice to Meet You’ theme is missing on the app, in both its Japanese and international reasons.
And there’s actually a possible reason for this. You see, the partner theme was changed between regions due to potential legal issues. The original Japanese version of the song sounded suspiciously similar to the song ‘America’ from the musical West Side Story, and the international version was completely reworked to avoid this issue:
Presumably, Nintendo thought it’d be too risky to put the original song on Nintendo Music, so they didn’t.
However, this raises another question. Why is this song’s English version not available here?
Because for some weird reason, Nintendo only uploaded the Japanese version of the soundtrack to the service. So, all the musical differences found in Paper Mario’s localisations are just ignored altogether.
And that’s especially noticeable with the final battle theme. That was also reworked in the English version:
But you’ll never hear that version on Nintendo Music. You’ll get the (somewhat less exciting) Japanese version, and that’s it. Same with the Mount Rugged theme and Bowser’s Castle theme, both of which got updated internationally.
So, there are a few interesting omissions here. The majority of tracks are included, but the regional versions are missing entirely, while the partner song is completely absent.
Still, that’s the latest soundtrack on Nintendo Music. It’s a banger for sure, and one with plenty of awesome tracks to listen to if you’re a Mario fan here. Check it out if you’re interested!
