New Trailer Reveals Rejected LEGO James Bond Game

New Trailer Reveals Rejected LEGO James Bond Game

As you know, LEGO adaptations of various popular franchises have been a huge success for the company. There’s LEGO Star Wars, which has gotten numerous games since its debut 2005. There are LEGO Marvel and DC games, which adapt various popular comic characters and franchises to the format.

And there are various others too. LEGO Indiana Jones, LEGO Harry Potter, LEGO Lord of the Rings… the list just keeps going on and on.

However, one series that didn’t get a LEGO adaptation is James Bond. Indeed, while the famous super spy has various real world LEGO sets based on his films, a video game adaptation never quite made production. As a result, those wanting to see what the tuxedo wielding secret agent would be like in LEGO format just had to imagine it themselves.

Until now. Why? Because earlier today, a leaked trailer was posted for a cancelled LEGO James Bond video game. Here’s the original post about it on Reddit, complete with the video in question:

And honestly? It looks pretty good to us.

Okay, it’s definitely rough around the edges. You can tell this is nowhere near a finished product, since everything from the character models and animations to the backgrounds and effects look noticeably clunkier than those from the LEGO games we got.

But the style and tone of the game? Honestly seems kinda perfect for an adaptation like this. You’ve got the laser weapon on the car reducing an attacker’s vehicle to a pile of blocks. Oddjob throwing not just his iconic bowler hat, but about 20 other LEGO hats to attack. A pastiche of the gun barrel opening. Plus, all the wacky stunts and references you could expect from a Bond related game.

James Bond is just the right mix of goofy and iconic enough that a LEGO parody feels right at home, and the series is designed in such a way it’s almost tailor made for video games in general.

Alas, the pitch was turned down. Apparently, it was made during the last year of LEGO Dimensions’ development once Traveller’s Tales knew the project was winding down, and the LEGO Group vetoed it due to thinking Bond wasn’t suitable for a tie in like this one. It’s a shame really, especially given the group’s later work with the license and the feeling that it probably would have been greenlit in 2018 or so.

Regardless, what do you think? Would you have wanted to see a LEGO James Bond game? What iconic scenes from the films would you have wanted in such a game anyway?
