New Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Trailer

Recently, Nintendo hosted an event for journalists and creators relating to the Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. In that event, various people got an early look at areas like Kokiri Forest, Hyrule Field and the Forest Temple, letting them see how the game had changed from its N64 counterpart.

We’ll cover what’s interesting in that event in another article though. Since Nintendo also took the chance to release a new trailer for the game as well. Take a look:

Yeah, calling it ‘new’ might be a little generous at times. Lots of the footage here is reused from either the previous trailer or the Japanese official site videos, so you’ll probably have seen a decent chunk of it before.

But there’s still some interesting new stuff nonetheless. Most notably, the Hall of Fallen Foes.

Yeah, remember how we recently asked what that was in a video about the remake’s changes? Or wondered if it was some sort of tracker for defeated enemies and bosses?

It’s not that.

Instead, it’s a Nintendo Gallery style museum for defeated enemies and bosses that you can find in game. There you get to view 3D models of the enemies you’ve defeated, read a bit about them by pressing A, and even re-challenge defeated bosses under various conditions:

So, it’s basically the Monster Gallery, Nintendo Gallery and 3DS version’s boss battles mode rolled into one.

Wonder if the folks at Hey, Listen Gaming are okay with it this time around?

We also get to learn what other amiibo do in the game too. Indeed, while the new ones seem to give you N64 style masks based on those versions of the characters, the old ones just drop random consumable items in front of you.

It’s not that big of a deal, but hey, if you want a way to get some extra arrows, bombs or deku sticks, this could be useful.

There are also some new shots showing familiar characters too. So, if you want to see what Talon, Ingo or the Windmill Hut guy look like in the Switch 2 remake, knock yourself out:

Zora’s River gets a bit more focus too. We know the heart piece you need to glide to with a Cucco returns here, as well as a bit more of what the tablet before the Zora’s Domain entrance is like:

Same goes with Lake Hylia as well:

Both areas seem significantly more fleshed out than in the original game, with much more natural looking environments packed with detail. Do have to wonder if any more is explorable though, or if these areas will feel a tad tunnel like given the more detailed backdrops surrounding them.

Finally, it seems like the bosses have been made a bit less… gamey in terms of their weaknesses too. Indeed, while King Dodongo used to just collapse and get stunned after you threw a bomb in his mouth, now it seems his tongue is treated as the weakpoint instead:

It’s a bit more gross; that’s for sure!

Either way, those are all the changes we’ve noticed in the latest trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Switch 2. If you’ve got any others you think we should have covered here, let us know in the comments or on our Discord, otherwise check in later for our full breakdown of the game based on everyone’s preview coverage so far.
