New Mod Adds Mario to Ocarina of Time

New Mod Adds Mario to Ocarina of Time

Hey guys, have you ever wanted to explore Hyrule as Mario? To take on the world of Ocarina of Time as everyone’s favourite plumber, physics and story logic be damned?

Well, if so, you’re in luck. A modder called Skijer has now made an Ocarina of Time mod that lets you do just that. Take a look:

As you can see, it’s literally Mario in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. You’ve got the original Mario 64 character model and voice, his full moveset from that game, and even things like the Metal and Vanish Caps!

What’s more, it’s insane even compared to past projects. Since well, while games like The Legend of Peach and Super Mario 93: The Bowser Defeat do something fairly similar, there’s one big difference here.

This mod adds Mario as an option that you can use at any time. Not a complete replacement for Link himself.

So, you can switch between the two on the spot with a special mask item, and change up the whole experience in an instant. It’s almost like Ocarina of Time got multiple playable characters to choose from, except at a level far beyond anything you’d see in a Nintendo title.

And Skijer’s modding journey certainly doesn’t seem to end here. Oh no, his next project looks to be even crazier than this one.

Why? Because he’s trying to merge Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask into the same game. As in, let you travel between Hyrule and Termina at the drop of a hat while keeping all items and upgrades intact level merging.

In other words, he’s doing to Termina what Pokémon Gold and Silver did to Kanto and that recent FireEmerald hack did to Hoenn: turn it into a secondary region for one massive game. It’s the kind of craziness we never thought would be possible in a Zelda hack like this, and the type of mod that would sound like a fever dream if announced back in the 90s.

Either way, check out the video if you want to see more of the game, then keep an eye on his account for both projects when they launch this September. It’s going to be an interesting time, that’s for sure!
