For a while now, there have been rumours about Switch re-releases of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. These were going to be released on the eShop in the same way as FireRed and LeafGreen before them, and help celebrate the franchises’ 30th anniversary.
And now we’ve got even more potential evidence for this rumour. Why? Because a mystery video has popped up on Twitter showing the game running in an unknown emulator. Take a look:

Yeah, it’s definitely footage of generation 3 in some sort of emulator. You’ve got a clip of the player running around Mr Briney’s cottage on route 104, with his Wingull circling the table. Content wise, it definitely seems like it’s from the rumoured re-release.
But is it really evidence of a rerelease?
Well, it’s certainly possible. Remember, PokeTimes isn’t just some random Pokémon news account. It’s the official Twitter account for the Pokémon series in Japan.
So, the timing seems awfully suspicious here. Why would the Pokémon Company suddenly post footage of Ruby and Sapphire on some random Monday? It’s not like these games have an anniversary anytime soon, that’s some way off on November 21st. And there’s no connection to these games in the remakes, core series or spinoffs either. Pokémon Legends: Rayquaza isn’t in development at the moment, nor is there a huge push for Steven Stone in Pokémon Masters EX.
Hence, it’d make sense that the footage was hinting towards an upcoming release.
But it’s not confirmed. Remember, official accounts tend to post a variety of content online. They don’t just promote their upcoming projects.
No, they like to reminisce on random events from the series too. For example, the official UK Mario account posted about Donkey Kong Bananza on some random day in July this year:

And that didn’t tie into anything. It wasn’t about an Emerald Rush event or statue, it wasn’t about the Mario collab, it was just a random post about a game tangentially related to the Mario series.
So, this could just be nothing important. A random post about the good old days of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.
It’s not like Pokémon hasn’t done this sort of thing before…
