Ah, we all knew this one was coming. With the last two waves of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass coming later this year, it was all but inevitable a trailer for the next wave would be included in today’s Nintendo Direct.

And lo and behold, that’s just what happens. We got a new teaser for wave 5 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC, complete with footage of three new characters and one new course. Here’s the video if you haven’t seen it yourself:

As you can see, it’s pretty damn incredible in terms of character choices. Indeed, with Petey Piranha, Wiggler and Kamek all being added to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the roster’s going to go from somewhat mediocre to significantly better in the course of a single update.

Especially given that poor Kamek missed out on an appearance in the last version of this game. Yep, back in the Wii U era, data for his emblem was found in the files, indicating he was meant to be playable in that one too.

But alas, it didn’t happen, and he had to wait until 2023 for his chance in the spotlight. So yeah, it’s neat to see him actually making an appearance here.

And it’s also neat to see the new track too. Named Squeaky Clean Sprint, it takes place in a giant bathroom with thematically appropriate obstacles. It’s a neat setup, and one which Mario Kart Tour dataminers have learnt about many months ago.

So yeah, that’s the latest Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC trailer, and everything we can learn from it. It’s not a full one with info on all the tracks included, but it’s an interesting teaser regardless, with some fantastic new characters and tracks featured there.
