Well, this is a pleasant surprise. Out of nowhere, Nintendo has announced a free update is now available for Mario Tennis Fever, complete with a new court and gameplay options.

As you can tell, it’s very much Super Mario Galaxy themed here. You’ve got a new court based on those games (the Galaxy Court). There are new Luma colours, including one that makes them look like Polari from the original games. And heck, there’s even a new racket that creates black holes (the aptly named Black Hole Racket).

What’s more, they’ve clearly put a lot of work into making this update feel like the Galaxy games and movie too. Why?

Because not only does the court have low-gravity (as you’d expect from a space setting like this), but there are even Prankster Comets available here!

Yup, on this court various comets can appear and affect the game’s mechanics. These include a Cosmic Helper one that creates shadowy copies of your characters that follow their every move, Fast-Foe Comets that speed up everyone’s movement, and even Daredevil Comets that turn everyone into one-hit wonders! It’s a cool setup, and adds some interesting twists to the mechanics, just like the Wonder Court’s Wonder Effects did in the base game.

So, check it out Mario Tennis fans! The game now has a new court and extra character options that weren’t there before, and they look to be well-worth trying out.
