Luigi’s Mansion 2 is Heading to Nintendo Switch

Ah Luigi’s Mansion. Previously a cult classic from the GameCube era, the series became a phenomenon upon its return in the 3DS era, with both Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon and Luigi’s Mansion 3 selling many millions of copies in their first few years alone.

And it seems like Nintendo wants to keep the money train rolling on Switch too. Why? Because out of the blue, a remaster of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (Luigi’s Mansion 2 in Europe) was unveiled for Nintendo Switch in today’s presentation! Here’s the relevant announcement from the Direct:

Yeah, there’s not much to see here. We’ve got a bit of footage showing Luigi in Gloomy Manor, and a confirmation from Nintendo staff that the game is indeed in development.

It’s kinda like the early Tears of the Kingdom teasers really. A short clip of the game, and a statement about its development status and how they intend to show more of it in future.

Yet that doesn’t stop it being interesting here. No, in fact, it makes us wonder exactly what changes the game will receive for its Nintendo Switch version.

Since while the original game was a classic in its own right, there were certainly a few places that needed a bit of improvement. These included many of the boss fights (like the infamous Shrewd Possessor one in the Secret Mine), and the multiplayer mode that was fun, but prone to annoying glitches that cut off your attempts early.

So we’re curious what they’ll do to improve on these things. Will annoying mechanics and boss fights be tweaked to make them more playable? Will the online be improved to bring it up to par with 3, or at least remove the annoying missing key glitch? What other quality of life additions could they add here, given that the game was notorious for a lack of checkpoints and a sometimes brutal ranking structure.

Hopefully at least a few things will be improved there, and it’ll get the kind of remaster that Skyward Sword HD did with its Switch port back in 2021.

Still, what do you think? Are you interested in seeing Luigi’s Mansion 2 remastered for Switch? What changes do you think the original game should get for this new platform?
