Well, it seems like the sequel to Kirby and the Forgotten Land is nearly here! Indeed, right at the end of today’s Nintendo Direct, the company announced Kirby and the World Beyond for Switch 2, complete with a Spring 2027 release date.

As you can see, it’s a lot less linear than Forgotten Land was. Indeed, if Forgotten Land looked like it took inspiration from Super Mario 3D Land and 3D World, World Beyond seems to be closer to Super Mario 64 or Super Mario Odyssey. Or heck, even the open world stylings of the recent Zelda games.
And we’re curious how that’s going to work. Copy abilities and a new sword move seem to be a big part of the game here, and the physics appear to be closely based on those from Forgotten Land, but we didn’t see much in the way of collectibles or goals. Maybe there’s a more mission-based structure here?
Regardless, the story seems to be something very unexpected. After a not so tough battle with King Dedede, Kirby sends him flying into what appears to be the sky, before the impact blasts a hole through the wall. Then, after meeting a mysterious character similar to Magolor or Elfilin, he breaks through said wall with a giant sword as well, getting access into the aforementioned ‘world beyond’.
So, is this a Truman Show style story? Has Kirby been suddenly taken into a fake world based on his own, with characters that resemble but don’t really act like his friends and foes?
Because that’s what it seems like to us. It’s Kirby meets the Truman Show or The Matrix, and we’re sure that ‘helper’ character has something to do with it too.
