Have New Metroid Games Been Leaked?

Well folks, it seems like Metroid Prime 4 might not be the latest Metroid game for very long. That’s because a listing on the Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Security site popped up for a title called Metroid Ravenous before being removed, indicating that at another Metroid game may be on the horizon for Switch 2.

Here’s a Twitter post with a picture of the listing, courtesy of UnivNintendo’s NecroFelipe:

As you can see, it doesn’t exactly give much away here. You’ve got the name, you’ve got Nintendo of America’s involvement in publishing it, and that’s about it.

But we can still figure out a few things about what the game might have in store.

For instance, it’s almost certain the title is a Switch 2 exclusive. Nintendo’s all but done with the original Switch outside of previously announced games like Rhythm Heaven, and any future title has almost certainly been built with the Switch 2 in mind.

Additionally, it’s fairly likely it’s a 2D Metroid game too. Metroid in general tends to stick to the Prime branding for 3D games (Other M being the sole exception), and the format here seems similar enough to Metroid Dread that the game feels like it’d be a follow up to that title. So, we can almost certainly expect this to be another MercurySteam production, especially given their comments about working on two unannounced titles back in 2023.

Hence a new Metroid Dread like title is almost certainly on the way here.

But it’s not the only thing that may be coming for the series. Oh no, as VGC’s Andy Robinson has mentioned on Twitter, other Metroid games are apparently in the works too:

And that’s very exciting news indeed. After all, plenty of people feared the worst when Metroid Prime 4 released a year or so ago, given its mixed critical reception and mediocre sales figures. It felt all too possible that Nintendo would put the franchise on ice for a bit, at least until the controversy died down and they could find a new direction for the series.

But apparently that’s not the case at all. Nintendo has multiple new Metroid games in the works, and sees plenty of potential in the franchise’s future. The franchise is (at least for now) on far more stable ground than anyone ever expected.

Still, what are your thoughts here? Are you excited for a possible Metroid Dread sequel on Switch 2? What other Metroid games do you think Nintendo and their partners are working on?
