Well Donkey Kong fans, it seems like another game from the series is coming to Nintendo Switch Online. This time, it’s Donkey Kong 64, Rare’s somewhat controversial N64 collectathon platformer.
Here’s the trailer if you haven’t seen it already:

Yeah, it’s about what you’d expect here. The original game seems to work the way it did on the Nintendo 64, at least from the footage available.
But Donkey Kong 64 is a surprisingly difficult to emulate platformer, and one which had a few issues on the Wii U Virtual Console. For example, a few mini games and action sequences used the console’s clock speed to determine how fast things would work, and went way faster than they were designed to as a result of that.
So, we’re curious how the Switch Online one will hold up here. Whether Nintendo and Rare have figured out how to get the game running well on the Switch 1/2, or if the same bugs are present in this port too.
Regardless, the game releases next Thursday on the 4th of June. Give it a look if you’re a 3D platformer fan, or need another Donkey Kong game to kill time.
