If you’ve been around the Zelda YouTube scene for a while, you’ve probably come across CryZENx and his Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. Developed in Unreal Engine 4 & 5 with realistic textures, models and lighting effects, it was an attempt to modernise the original game for a new audience, and one of the longest running fan projects in existence.

However, it seems this project’s lengthy development has now come to an end. Why? Because according to CryZENx’s own Patreon page, the project has now been cancelled.
What’s more, it’s not due to Nintendo either. No, unlike certain other fan games and mods in the past, the company hasn’t sent out any DMCA notices or cease and desist letters here, nor have they attempted to take down any of his videos about the game.
Instead, CryZENx ended the project himself due to the reveal of Nintendo’s own Ocarina of Time remake. He simply realised that competing with Nintendo’s own remake would be a bad idea, and decided to move on to something else.
With that something else apparently being another fan remake. He’s not sure exactly what game he’ll be remaking here, but given that Twilight Princess, Minish Cap, Donkey Kong 64 and Metroid Prime Hunters are all on the table, it’s sure to be another major Nintendo game nonetheless.
So, yeah, that somewhat infamous Ocarina of Time fan remake is now dead. The official Ocarina of Time one made it irrelevant, and its creator has decided to move onto something else.
