If you’ve been around the Zelda community a while, you’ll almost certainly remember how poor Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity performed on Switch 1. Indeed, with frame rate drops galore and a litany of technical issues besieging the game, it was a great game very much compromised by the system it was made for.
But now things are getting a bit better. Now, a Switch 2 version of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity has been announced for 2027. Check out a trailer here:
As you can tell, it’s a Definitive Edition of the game. It’s got a rock-solid 60fps frame rate, all the DLC is included by default, and there are a few tweaks to the mechanics too, like an extra difficulty mode (Calamity Mode) and additional enemies on screen.
However, there’s a catch here. A catch that very much leaves us hesitant to give this version a try.
It’s not a Switch 2 Edition. As a result, while you can transfer your save data to this version of the game, and get a 50% discount on the asking price…
You can’t just upgrade an existing copy of Age of Calamity here. You’re stuck paying more for a second copy of the game you don’t really need.
And that’s something we’re very hesitant to accept here. Sure, you get a 50% discount if you own Age of Calamity on Switch (it’s $30 rather than about $60), but it’s still a hefty price for a ‘Definitive Edition’ that adds approximately one feature and a handful of performance upgrades. It might be worth it for new players, but for existing ones, it seems like it could be a step too far.
Regardless, that’s Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition, and what’s included in it. It’ll be available on the 25th of February 2027 if you’re interested in trying it.
