New Breath of the Wild Glitch Lets You Clone Rare Materials!

Have you ever wanted to get more Star Fragments in the Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild? Needed more gems to sell for money, or Ancient Cores for the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab?

Well if so, you’re in luck! That’s because a new glitch has been found recently that lets you easily get as many rare items as your heart desires, and all for free. Here’s a video tutorial showing how it works:

As you can see, it’s a really simple process overall. Just smuggle some common items, sell the stack, and pick up the rare one.

But in case you need more info, here’s a full breakdown of the relevant process:

First, go to a shop of some kind. Beedle is a good choice here, though the same setup will work fine in any town in the game too.

A stable in BoTW

A stable is an ideal location to set up this glitch

Then, drop the rare item you want to duplicate. You need to have no copies in your inventory, so drop the whole stack if you more than one of them.

Drop the Rare Item

As you can see, we’ve dropped the one Giant Ancient Core in our inventory

Next, overload the game with Shock Arrows. You can do this by changing to a multishot bow, aiming a shock arrow and dropping the bow, then repeating with another 5 or 6 bows.

Aim Shock Arrow

Aim a multishot bow with a Shock Arrow equipped…

Drop Multi Shot Bow

Then drop the relevant bow. Repeat 5 or 6 times

Eventually, Link should start glitching out in the inventory. So, hold as many of a common item as you can…

Smuggled Items

If you can’t see Link holding the items in the menu, you’ve probably smuggled them correctly

Then unpause the game. If you’re lucky, you will have ‘smuggled’ the item, meaning you’ll be holding it in the inventory but not in the game world itself.

Smuggled Items Overworld

Successfully smuggling items means Link isn’t holding anything in the overworld

Pick up your bows. This isn’t necessarily needed, but it does mean they won’t despawn if you go too far, meaning you don’t need to worry about losing them.

Speak to Beedle (or the shopkeeper in question), and sell the rest of the items you’re holding. Make sure you have none left.

Sell Other Items

In this case, we sell the rest of the meat we were carrying

Now, pick up the rare item you want to duplicate…

Pick Up Rare Item

As you can see, we’ve picked up the Giant Ancient Core

Then stop holding the items in your inventory. Voila! You should have as many copies of the rare item as there were items in Link’s hands in the inventory!

Stop Holding Smuggled Items

Then when we stop holding the smuggled items…

Get Multiple Rare Items

We end up with 6 Giant Ancient Cores instead of just 1!

However, keep a few things in mind here:

Firstly, this only works for items that can be stacked (aka multiple can exist in one item slot). As a result, this glitch works for materials, arrows, Spirit Orbs, Korok Seeds, keys in shrines and certain types of cooked food (mostly baked apples, seared steaks, etc).

But it doesn’t work for armour, weapons, bows, shields or most key items. So if you want to duplicate the latter, you’ll have to find another way to do it (like the simple overload glitch for weapons, bows and shields).

Secondly, you can get around 15 of any item with this glitch by simply dropping your collection of said item beforehand. Do that, then pick up the rest after you clone the initial batch of items. For obvious reasons, this doesn’t work for Spirit Orbs, Korok Seeds or arrows, so you can only get 6 of those at a time with this bug.

Finally, if you want to dupe even more than that, you’ll have to use the floating materials glitch in some fashion. You can find a tutorial for that one here.

Regardless, have fun cloning materials guys! Now you’ll be able to upgrade every piece of armour to its full potential, and get unlimited numbers of things like ancient weapons right off the bat. It’s BoTW made convenient once again!
