Virtual Boy Games Coming to Switch Online

Virtual Boy Games Coming to Switch Online

When it comes to old Nintendo games on Nintendo Switch Online, there’s always been a bit of debate as to what’ll be next on the agenda. After all, the old standbys are all well accounted for on the service. NES, SNES, Game Boy and Game Boy Colour games are available for regular subscribers, while Game Boy Advance, N64 and GameCube are available for Expansion Pack ones.

So, with only a few generations left till the Switch itself, it was always up in the air as to what they’d follow things up with. Would the Wii and Wii U see their games ported over, despite the Switch 1 not being far removed from the latter? Would the DS and 3DS see their games ported to home consoles, like the Game Boy library before them?

Or would Nintendo go out of their way and port something unexpected, like the Virtual Boy or Satellaview?

Well, as it turns out the latter is the case. Because against all logic and common sense, the company has now announced that Virtual Boy games will be heading to the Nintendo Classics library for Nintendo Switch Online. Here’s the trailer from the recent Direct:

Yeah, you’ll seemingly need an accessory to play the games here, in the form of either a proper recreation of the Virtual Boy headset, or a cardboard one similar to the LABO VR version. It’s certainly a unique setup that’s for sure, even if the prices for those accessories are damn near exorbitant.

Still, the console’s library will be added to Switch Online from February 17th 2026, with games added at about the pace you’d expect for a classic console’s library. Check it out if you’re interested in trying out this unique piece of Nintendo history, or need another few games to pass the time on the service.
