The Zelda Movie Gets a Release Date!

The Zelda Movie Gets a Release Date!

Back in 2023, Nintendo announced that a Legend of Zelda movie was in production. Created in partnership with Sony Pictures and with Avi Arad as producer, the film is set to be a live-action adaptation of the series, like so many fan-made ones before it.

But that’s all we knew about it. We knew the people involved in it, and we knew it’d be coming out sometime in the foreseeable future, but nothing beyond that. No release date, no cast list, and certain no story details.

Well, until today anyway! Because on the newly released Nintendo Today app, the company announced The Legend of Zelda movie will be hitting theatres worldwide on the 26th of March 2027. Here’s a picture of the post for anyone without access to the news:

Zelda Movie Release Date

The release date post from Nintendo Today

Yeah, it’s a pretty big announcement to just drop on us like that. Presumably, Nintendo thought it’d be a great marketing ploy for the new app, and something to show that it’s more than just a bunch of trivia and press releases.

But it’s here now. We now officially have a release date for the movie.

The only question is; can they stick to it?

Because movies have a tendency to get delayed, especially bigger and more ambitious ones like the new Zelda film. Add this to the video game series already having issues with missed release dates and ambitious launch plans that get pushed back over and over, and well, we can’t help to be a little sceptical here. Remember when Breath of the Wild was a 2016 game or Tears of the Kingdom was a 2022 one?

Ah well, we have something nonetheless. So, what do you think? Are you excited for the film and its 2027 release date? How likely do you think it’ll be that Nintendo will actually manage to hit the projected deadline this time around?
