Earlier today, Nintendo had a Nintendo Direct presentation about The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. In that presentation, they revealed the presence of Yoshi, and some very other interesting characters involved in the film’s plot.

As you can see, Yoshi is the main star of the show here. We see him rescued from the Inverted Pyramid by the bros, we see him joining them and Toad in Toad Town, and we see him protecting the baby Mario bros and Toad from a T. Rex later in the film.

And he’s pretty much exactly how you’d expect here. He doesn’t speak English beyond his typical Yoshi sounds, looks much the same as in the original games, and has the exact personality you’d expect from our green dino friend. No notes there guys, Yoshi looks great.
But he’s not the only interesting addition here. No, in addition to the Tostarenans and T. Rex, we also see the baby Mario bros in the film too.

Yeah, we’re not sure how that works. Is time travel involved? Do the bros get deaged somehow? What are they doing in the Cascade Kingdom anyway?
We’ll just have to wait and see. Presumably it’s another plot point in a movie that sometimes feels suspiciously full of them.
More interestingly though is who shows up in the scene with Birdo later in the trailer. Mouser and Clawgrip.

Yup, these otherwise forgotten Super Mario Bros 2 bosses appear in this movie too, and take part in the battle between Peach and Birdo in this casino like area. Given that Super Mario Bros 2 elements were generally pretty thin on the ground in the movieverse until now, this makes us wonder what the context of this scene is.
Will Wart appear? Is this some sort of Subcon equivalent in the Mushroom World? Are these guys just on Bowser’s side again, like in the Super Mario Bros Super Show?
Whatever the case, it’s amazing to see them return here, and we’re excited to see what other crazy character deep cuts show up later too. Suddenly, the likes of Wario, the Koopalings, Reznor or spinoff characters are a whole lot more possible than ever before.
