Hey folks, have you wanted to play The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom with other people? To explore the surface, sky and depths with other players, fighting them all the while?
If so, it seems like this mod may be just the thing. In development by Kirbymimi, who is already known for making multiplayer mods for games like Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and showcased at the last F3, it’s a full-blown online multiplayer experience for Tears of the Kingdom, complete with all the functionality found in the base game.
Here’s the latest trailer if you haven’t seen it yourself:

As you can see, it looks exactly as good as you’d hope it’d be. You’ve got lots of Links running around in random armour and with random weapons, and all the game’s mechanics seem to handle it just fine. Ultrahand works as expected, bosses like Gleeoks and Ganondorf himself work just fine, and all in all, it plays surprisingly well for a fan-made project based on one of the most ambitious games ever made.
Yet as awesome as it looks, we still have our concerns. Since well, projects like this don’t always have the best track record.
For example, there was that Breath of the Wild online multiplayer mod in 2023, which was heavily promoted by PointCrow on YouTube. That one got shut down by Nintendo themselves.
Then there was the last time we promoted an online multiplayer mod based on media like this one. In that case, it turns out the mod was far earlier in development than the screenshots made it seem, and the vast majority of said screenshots were actually mockups meant to show might happen further down the line.
So, while we’re excited for the possibility of an online multiplayer mode in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, we’re not super optimistic that we’ll see it finished anytime soon. The odds are always against things like this, not matter how we wish they weren’t.
Still, what are your thoughts? Are you happy to see an online multiplayer mod for Tears of the Kingdom? Would you be interested in trying this out when it’s released?
