Super Mario Bros Wonder Gets New Switch 2 Trailer

Super Mario Bros Wonder Gets New Switch 2 Trailer

Back in the September 2025, Nintendo revealed Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park for the Nintendo Switch 2. This was an upgraded version of the original game for the new system, with extra features like multiplayer minigames and an extra playable character.

It was a neat enough announcement, but one that left a lot up to the imagination. We knew some things that they added, but there was a lot left unexplained too. Like the role of the Koopalings in the game, or the existence of Rosalina as a playable character.

But now we have some answers. Why? Because Nintendo’s released a new trailer for the upgrade which can be watched here:

So, what’s on offer here?

Well, a surprising amount actually. There’s obviously the whole Bellabel Park thing, where you can play various mini games and challenges with other players both locally and online. These were shown off more in the last trailer for this upgrade, but we do see some new ones here nonetheless. Like one where you ride a Propeller Flower up through a level in a race, one where you race through a level in rockets, and one where you seemingly do the Wiggler Races against other players rather than a CPU opponent.

There’s also Game Room Plaza, where you can play at least a few of these online with other players. Again, it seems to work as expected here, with rankings and rewards for doing well.

But then we get the new stuff. And this is arguably where the game gets a tad more interesting.

Since well, it takes part in the main Flower Kingdom instead of this side area. So, you’re doing challenges and facing Koopalings in existing levels rather than side ones.

And there’s some interesting things to see and do. Like say, Toad Brigade Training Camp, where you have to clear challenges in existing Mario Wonder levels for currency and ranks.

Basically, it’s like Challenge Mode in New Super Mario Bros U. You may have to collect all the coins, beat the level while using a certain powerup or badge, clear the course in a certain amount of time, etc.

So, yeah. A decent enough way to add replay value for the existing stages.

Meanwhile the Koopalings have taken the treasure of Bellabel Park, and ran off to various levels in the main game to hide. By going there to track them down, they’ll use Wonder Flower style transformations to fight you in a unique boss fight, like this one where Wendy’s a giant Cheep Cheep.

It’s a neat setup, and definitely an improvement on the Bowser Jr fights in the core game…

But it still leaves us wondering why this was left for the Switch 2 DLC. Surely someone at Nintendo realised that a bunch of Bowser Jr and Mecha Maker fights weren’t that appealing, right? How did it take this long to figure out that giving other characters Wonder abilities was a good way to handle boss fights?

Ah well, they’re here now, and they’ll be a nice challenge to take down. Perhaps even a prelude to a new final boss or other optional content if you beat them all!

There’s also Rosalina as a playable character. This was briefly shown in the marketing material for the game, but not really mentioned by Nintendo up until now.

And she’s basically like all the other playable characters ability wise. She’s usable in both the main game and side modes, has been added to the intro and other cutscenes, and functions exactly as you’d expect her to.

But there are some differences in the character roster. Some that make the game a bit easier.

Such as the new Luma character. This is basically the co-star Luma from the Super Mario Galaxy games, and acts as an assistant player when chosen. It’s invincible and flies around levels as it pleases, but can defeat enemies for the others with a spin attack.

Meanwhile if you want to make the game easier but don’t care for Yoshi or Nabbit, there’s assist mode too. This makes your current character completely invincible and has them automatically saved from bottomless pits. It seems like overkill if you ask us, but hey, it could be useful for brand-new players who have a favourite character but don’t seem very good at platforming.

There are also some amiibo too. These are as follows:

  1. Elephant Mario
  2. Popplin & Prince Florian
  3. Captain Toad & Talking Flower

Though we don’t get told what functionality they actually have in-game.

Finally, there’s a release date for the game. It’ll be available on March 26th 2026, in both standalone retail game and upgrade forms. So, it’ll be much cheaper for existing Super Mario Bros Wonder owners, like all the Switch 2 Editions before it.

Regardless, what do you think? Are you excited to try the Super Mario Bros Wonder DLC and upgrade? What features seem most interesting to you?
