Well folks, it seems we’ll be learning even more about Kirby Air Riders soon! That’s because according to Nintendo, a new Nintendo Direct about the game is taking place tomorrow, with Sakurai explaining even more about the game’s features and mechanics.
Here’s the announcement about it from their official Twitter account:
Tune in on Thursday, October 23 at 6am PT for a second #KirbyAirRiders Direct! This presentation will feature about 60 minutes of information about the upcoming #NintendoSwitch2 game and an appearance from Mr. Sakurai. View it here: https://t.co/t8lIkdvXnF pic.twitter.com/QbiHNHy3oW

As you can see, it’s quite the presentation here. Indeed, with 60 minutes of information about the game being included, it kinda leaves us wondering one important thing:
What in the world could they even talk about here?
Because we already know a ton about the game. The last Direct was a lengthy one in itself, and explained just about everything about the game’s main mechanics and playable characters.
So, we’re very interested to see what this one will have in-store. In fact, we’ve got three possible guesses for why this Direct may exist:
The first is that we’re getting a story mode of some kind. It’s not a guarantee by any means, since Sakurai’s history with the Super Smash Bros series shows that complex single player adventure modes are rarely a priority for multiplayer games like this one…
But it would explain the lengthy presentation, and why both Sakurai and Nintendo thought the game deserved another round of information. Heck, there’s even a mysterious newcomer in the game’s official art that seems like a probable villain here:
Hence that’s possibility one.
Possibility two is that the game is just that big when it comes to characters, tracks, vehicles and transformations, and the event is dedicated to showing more of those off.
Again, that would make sense here. Sakurai games tend to be content-heavy to say the least, and it’s likely there’s a lot of stuff being hidden from us on that front as we speak.
So, a new Direct could show some of it off.
Finally, it’s always possible that the third mode from the original game is actually returning here (maybe in a reworked way), or that something equally big is being included to round out the package.
Like a new story mode, that would justify another Direct, especially one with such a long runtime.
Regardless, our theory is that we’re probably getting all three. We’ll get a story mode featuring this new Dark Matter like bad guy. We’ll get a ton of character and vehicle reveals, because fan-favourites like Elfilin, Taranza and Marx still haven’t shown up yet…
And because it’s Sakurai, there are probably even more new modes to show off too. The guy loves his side content in games, to the point City Trial became as big as it did because of that.
Still, what are your predictions for tomorrow? Are there any other features and characters you want to see in the Direct at 2pm UK time tomorrow?
