When it comes to cut ideas and content, the recent Teraleak has shone a lot of light on generation 6. Indeed, with everything from scrapped Pokémon designs to an entire cut region of Kalos revealed to the world, it’s clear that Pokémon X and Y were some of the more rushed titles in the series.
And that’s even more true with one of the latest discovered features too. Why? Because as mentioned by Centro Leaks, the game was going to let players create custom gyms too.
Yep, the childhood dream of becoming a Pokémon gym leader nearly became a reality in generation 6, complete with the option to add friends and defeated rivals as trainers. Here’s the post about it from over on Twitter:
Yet another discarded X/Y feature: create your custom gyms.
• Players create their own original gyms and share them online.
• Other players can attempt to conquer these gyms.

As you can see, it’s got quite a bit to it. You could share the gyms online for other players to play, and if they beat the gym, they can add your character as a trainer in their own one too. So, in essence, you could create your own Elite 4 and Champion. Or even recreate the sort of battle facility not found in the later games.
It’s a really cool feature, and one that fans would have loved for sure. After all, the Secret Bases are a hugely popular part of the series, with the ones in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire getting a ton of praise for the creative setups you can create there.
So, imagine an even better version. A full-on Gym Maker of sorts, complete with the potential for unique themes and obstacles and other setups as well as decorations. That would have been an incredible feature, and one that would have really set X and Y apart.
Alas, it’s not to be. The planned gym feature got cut, and likely retooled into the upgraded Secret Base one for Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire. Our dreams of becoming proper gym leaders in a Pokémon game will have to be put on hold for the foreseeable future.
