Well folks, they’re finally here! After months of discussion due to the Teraleak and rumours, the 10th generation of Pokémon games have now been announced, courtesy of Pokémon Day 2026. Titled Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, and due out for the Switch 2 in 2027, the games look to be island hopping adventures in a tropical setting similar to Sun & Moon, and a massive technical leap forwards from their Switch 1 predecessors.

Here’s the reveal trailer:

As you can see, it’s a very lush setting to say the least. From beachside villages to underwater reefs, lava filled caverns to fields and forests, the games look a hell of a lot more impressive than Scarlet & Violet or Legends: Z-A ever did.
And there’s a healthy mix of returning species too. Okay, we only know a tiny percentage of the species returning in these games, but damn what a selection it is so far. In addition to typical standbys like Pikachu and Krabby, we’ve also got the likes of Slugma, Tropius, Tympole and Tangela to name just a few. It’s exactly what you’d hope for in a setting like this way, and makes us wonder how many otherwise ignored species will make their return this time around.
But enough about the old Pokémon now. How about the new ones? Are there any?
Well, as you can guess, yes. The starter trio, and two new Pikachu variants.

The three starters from the new games (Browt, Pombon and Gecqua)
With the former being the most interesting. You’ve got Browt, a grass type owl Pokémon , Pombon, a fire type dog Pokémon and Gecqua, a water type gecko Pokémon with all the cuteness you’d expect. Ability wise they share the same abilities as their previous generation counterparts (Overgrow, Blaze and Torrent respectively), but hey, their stats and final evolutions are yet to be seen. Perhaps they’ll shake things up there instead.
As for the Pikachu forms? Well, there’s not much to go on here. We know that a shirt wearing one called Mr. Windychu and a dress wearing one called Ms. Wavychu will be involved in the adventure somehow, and that’s about it. Perhaps they’ll play roles similar to the surfing Pikachu from older games? Or help replace the game-specific means of transport that replaced HMs?

Left is Mr. Windychu, right is Ms Wavychu
Honestly, it could go any way here.
Regardless, that’s the official announcement for Pokémon Winds & Waves. They’re due out on Switch 2 in 2027, and look to be a massive upgrade from their predecessors both stylistically and technically.
So, what do you think of them? Are you excited to try them out? What other features do you expect to see this time around?
