Damn, it’s quite the year for video game related theme park attractions, isn’t it? Right after Super Nintendo World opened at Universal Studios Japan and a Donkey Kong expansion for the same area was announced, Universal Studios and the Pokemon Company have apparently signed a contract to feature Pokemon related content in the former’s theme parks too!
Yep, as announced by Universal Studios on Twitter, Universal Studios Japan and the Pokemon Company will ‘enter a long-term partnership to jointly explore groundbreaking entertainment that will immerse guests into the world of Pokemon’.
Here are the tweets about it from their various regional accounts:

These tweets don’t exactly go into much detail about what those plans are, but they do raise a few interesting questions and points nonetheless.
Firstly, the fact they’re not Super Nintendo World related seems to confirm this Pokemon related content will take place elsewhere in the park, perhaps in its own ‘land’ or section. So in addition to a Mario area and a Donkey Kong area, it appears we’ll be getting a completely separate Pokemon related one too.
Secondly, the fact their worldwide accounts also posted it implies it won’t be Japan only for too long either. Presumably, like Super Nintendo World, whatever Pokemon attractions are added to the Japanese park will also end up in the US ones at some point too. So yeah, you probably won’t need to visit Japan to experience these, at least not in the long run.
Still, what do you think? Are you excited to see Pokemon related attractions in Universal’s parks? What cool rides and shows do you think the Pokemon series lends itself to here?
