Pikmin 3 Deluxe Possibly Getting Switch 2 Update

Pikmin 3 Deluxe Possibly Getting Switch 2 Update

When it comes down to it, there are two major ways a Switch 1 game can be re-released on the Switch 2.

There are the Switch 2 Editions, which add new features and content and overhaul much of the original game, like with the Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom upgrades or the upcoming Super Mario Bros Wonder one…

Plus, the free patches and updates, which mostly just steady the game’s framerate and fix various technical issues the original Switch wasn’t capable of dealing with.

They’re both a neat way to re-experience beloved titles on the new hardware, and both offer reasons to return to games otherwise unsuited for the original console.

And now, it seems like the lineup for the latter has been expanded. Or at least, it will be in due time.

Yep, as shown by the ratings info on the PEGI official site, a Switch 2 version of Pikmin 3 Deluxe seems to be in the works, in the form of a free upgrade for the game.

Here’s the listing on the PEGI site, as well as a screenshot in case it’s taken down:

What’s more, we know it’s an upgrade rather than a Switch 2 Edition too. That’s because other Switch 2 Editions are listed independently of the original title (like with Tears of the Kingdom and Mario Party Jamboree) rather than in the same listing (like this one here):

So, yeah. Pikmin 3 Deluxe is getting an update on Switch 2.

But why is this? Why Pikmin 3 Deluxe rather than Pikmin 4?

Given it’s the same result as the Switch 1 version, it’s definitely more of a patch or rerelease than an upgrade. So, if you were expecting a Pikmin 3 Deluxe: Switch 2 Edition, this isn’t that. Those are listing independently of the original game, like with Super Mario Party Jamboree or The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom:

Still, the release does raise a few interesting questions nonetheless. Most notably, why bother?

Why wouldn’t they choose the Switch exclusive Pikmin 4 for such an update instead?

Well, the answer is pretty simple. Because Pikmin 4 is getting all this and more.

Indeed, while Pikmin 4’s already gotten a massive update with a ton of new features on both Switch 1 and 2, a removed listing on the eShop indicates it’s getting a performance update as well. So, it’s likely that both games are getting the same sort of upgrade here, and that the Pikmin 3 Deluxe one is simply being released first.

Regardless, what are your thoughts here? Are you happy to see Pikmin 3 Deluxe get an upgrade on Switch 2? What other major Switch 1 titles do you expect to see updated for the more powerful console?
