When it comes to Nintendo Music, soundtracks from Mario spinoffs have generally been few and far between. Okay, there was the odd exception here and there, like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at launch and Princess Peach Showtime in [month], but as a rule of thumb, it’s mostly been songs from Nintendo’s main franchises that got all the attention here. Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario Bros Wonder. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. That sort of thing.
But today things have changed. Today, things have taken a slightly more interesting turn.
Since the soundtracks for both the GameCube and Switch versions of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door have now been added to the service! Here’s the announcement about it from Nintendo:

Given how awesome both soundtracks are, it’s really neat to see them available to officially listen to here. They’re truly underrated soundtracks overall, and ones that more Mario fans need to check out for themselves.
So, it’s nice to see that’s the case here. That people who might not have tried the Mario RPGs may give the soundtracks (and games) a shot soon.
And it’s also nice to see representation for those games in general. Again, they’ve often got some of the best music in the entire series, with just about all the Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi games utterly nailing it in the music department. So, to know that Nintendo is open to adding them to Nintendo Music is good news for fans of other Mario spinoffs too. It shows that the games outside of the core series are recognised by the company, and that their songs will be available officially in future.
Either way, if you’re a fan of Paper Mario, rejoice! Two of the best Paper Mario soundtracks are now available on Nintendo Music right now. And if you’re not… well, check ’em out anyway. Because these are amazing games with even better soundtracks, and their availability here may inspire you to give the series a shot too!
