As you know, it’s nearly the end of the road for Mario Kart 8. Indeed, after over a decade of Mario Kart 8 being the main game in the series, it seems it’s finally time to move on. Mario Kart 10 has been teased, and it’ll be releasing on the Switch 2 sometime this year.
So, to celebrate the end of this long running game, we’ve decided to host one final tournament here on Gaming Reinvented. One last Mario Kart 8 Deluxe tournament to see out the original game, and pave the way for a new console and era.
And as you can expect, it follows the typical formula. On April 12th 2025 (approximately 4 weeks from now), members from Nintendo communities from across the internet will have the chance to compete for a $200 grand prize. It’ll follow the same format as the rest of the tournaments we’ve hosted here, take place at the same time and on the same day of the week as before, and be a fantastic way to see out the Switch 1 and enjoy one last round of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe before the next title makes it obsolete.
So yeah, here are the rules:
- Mode: 150cc Grand Prix
- Teams: No Teams
- Items: Standard Items
- CPU: Normal CPU
- Vehicles: All Vehicles
- Smart Steering: Allowed
- Active: Fixed Period
- Start Date: 12th April 2025
- Start Time: 8pm (20:00) GMT+1
- End Date: (see start date)
- End Time: 23:30 GMT (or whenever we’re done)
- Races: 24 (plus 12 for the final)

Yeah, it’s the same as before. Surprisingly, that part wasn’t even planned. We just happened to arrange it in April, without realising that it was a few weeks after the clocks go forward in the UK. For possibly the first time in the history of forever, daylight’s savings actually turned out to be useful for something.

FAQ
Is the tournament free to enter?
Yes it’s free to enter. We don’t charge people to enter any of our events.
Can I use any character/kart/settings?
Yeah. All characters and kart pieces are allowed here, including those from the Booster Course Pass.
Do I need the Booster Course Pass to enter?
No, because you can select those courses online if at least one person in the lobby has them.
What happens if there’s a draw?
Generally a tiebreaker race occurs if there’s a draw for either 1st place or tournament qualification.
Do I need to fill out the form?
Technically no, but we prefer if you do. It makes it easier to know which Mario Kart 8 Deluxe username corresponds to which Discord user, letting us more easily contact finalists and winners.
What’s the cut off date for entering?
For form submissions, approximately 8pm on Saturday 12th April. Gotta be there when the tournament starts.
Why is this not a Mario Kart World tournament?
The game isn’t out yet. We’ll host a tournament for that game after it and the Switch 2 launch this June.
How can I receive my prize?
You tell us. If you win the tournament, we’ll contact you and you can tell us how you want to receive the money.
