Back in January, accessory maker Genki got in a bit of trouble at CES 2025. That’s because the company decided to show off a mockup of the Switch 2 to demonstrate their upcoming products, despite the product not even officially being revealed by Nintendo at the time.
This in turn led to a lot of questions online, and rumours about Nintendo reps potentially checking out the company’s booth to spy on their actions.
But now it seems we officially know Nintendo’s reaction to the reveal. Why? Because earlier today, the company filed a lawsuit against Genki claiming trademark infringement over the use of the Switch 2 mockup and reveal. Here’s a post about it from dataminer and researcher OatmealDome:

Nintendo is suing accessory maker Genki, the company that showed off a mockup of the Switch 2 at their CES 2025 booth before the console's official reveal.

As you can tell, Nintendo has pretty much used the company’s words against them here. They said that either Genki misled the public about their accessories being compatible with the Switch 2, or got unauthorised early access to the console, both of which are questionably legal actions at best.
They also allege that the company’s mockups feature Nintendo’s trademarks and branding, and (according to VGC) that they infringed Nintendo’s Nintendo Direct trademarks by emailing their mailing list and saying they’d hold their own ‘Direct’ presentation.
Either way, Nintendo wants all of Genki’s Switch 2 related products discontinued and destroyed, wants ‘damages’ for Switch 2 related claims to be repaid and for the company to cease using any of its trademarks in future.
We’ll keep you updated how that goes when the case proceeds.
