Nintendo Reveals Brothership Sales

Nintendo Reveals Brothership Sales

When Mario & Luigi: Brothership was released last year, fans were a bit worried about its sales. After all, the first week’s sales in Japan seemed pretty low, with the game coming in lower than the likes of Super Mario RPG or Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. As a result, there was a sense of trepidation going forward, with many worrying it could even spell the end of the series.

Fortunately, it seems our fears were overblown. Why? Because earlier today Nintendo revealed the sales for various Switch games released in the last quarter, Brothership included.

And as it turns out, said game has sold 1.84 million copies so far. That’s a great start for a game in the series, and a level of sales success that puts it above Partners in Time and Paper Jam, and roughly on par with Superstar Saga and Dream Team.

It’ll probably outsell this game soon

So, it seems our fears were unfounded here. Mario & Luigi: Brothership sold just fine, and the Mario & Luigi series most likely has a bright future ahead of it.

But that’s not the only series doing well recently. No, Paper Mario and Zelda had some good sales numbers too.

With Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door now having surpassed 2 million copies on Switch (2.06M in total) and Echoes of Wisdom having hit nearly 4 million copies sold (3.91M in total). So, both games are doing rather well for themselves here, indicating that both Paper Mario and the 2D Zelda games also have a bright future ahead of them.

Then there’s Super Mario Party Jamboree. That game didn’t so much sell well as much as smash all sales expectations to pieces.

Super Mario Party Jamboree is selling faster than any previous Mario Party game

Since in the months since its October release, it’s already passed 6 million copies sold, with a total of 6.17M having been sold so far. That’s incredible for a Mario Party game, and in just a few months makes it the 5th bestselling game in the franchise so far. Probably third soon, given that Mario Party 8 sold about 8 million copies and Mario Party DS sold 9 million.

Either way, Switch owners clearly love Mario Party, given the Switch games have all become the highest selling games in the series. And given that the car-based games all sold significantly worse than their standard counterparts, we can likely rest easy knowing the classic gameplay formula is here to stay.

Still, those are the sales figures for Nintendo’s latest games on Switch. If you want a full summary, you can find them all on the official site.
