Have you ever wanted an easy way to make custom levels for Super Mario 64? To make them in a drag and drop tool like Super Mario Maker, without any of that pesky custom modelling stuff?
Well, if so, you’re in luck! Because two modders by the names of Rovertronic and Arthurtilly have now released Super Mario Builder 64, which lets you do just that. Here’s the release trailer for the tool in question:
As you can see, it’s just about everything you’d want in a 3D Mario level building tool. You can lay out the terrain with a cursor, like in the Mario Maker series. You can use all the objects, enemies and bosses from Super Mario 64, with various additional config options provided alongside them…
And heck, you can even use new things too! For example, red and blue switches like those from Super Mario Maker are included here, as are the note blocks featured in oh so many Mario 64 hacks past.
What’s more, there’s also some interesting unique stuff too. You see, Rovertronic, isn’t just the creator of Super Mario Builder 64.
No, he’s also the main developer for a hack called Beyond the Cursed Mirror as well. This is itself an incredible project, with everything from character customisation to custom enemies and powerups.
And Super Mario Builder 64 includes a theme based on this very game. As a result, you can also use things like badges and powerups from this game in your levels now, as well as the Showrunner boss from said game. So, if you’re bored with just vanilla Mario 64 objects, there’s a lot of cool new stuff to play around with too.
Either way, it’s an incredible project, and one that we’re genuinely surprised works so well on real hardware. So, check out the download here if you want to try it for yourself:
