New Echoes of Wisdom Trailer Reveals Still World

New Echoes of Wisdom Trailer Reveals Still World

Well folks, seems we’ve got another trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Here’s the video if you haven’t seen it already:

As you can see, there’s a lot here to take in. In fact, it explains far more about the game than ever before.

With the first thing being an answer to the question of what the voids throughout Hyrule are. Put simply, they’re extensions of this thing called the Still World, which is swallowing up the land.

Anything that ends up there gets trapped into a spooky void like universe, and will eventually disappear.

It’s spooky as heck to say the least, especially when you see innocent NPCs floating lifelessly in places like in these screenshots:

What’s more, it’s also a navigational challenge in its own right too. Indeed, just like the Distortion World in the Pokémon series, the Still World here is full of landmasses floating every which way, with stable ground sometimes being a rarity. As a result, you’ll land to master your echoes to move around the place, using the sides of things like trees as platforms in the process.

It’s a fun setup, and one which takes the skills you’ve learnt in Hyrule, and truly puts them to the test.

But the weird navigation and design isn’t all the Still World brings to the table. No, it’s got a few other quirks too.

Such as many of the game’s dungeons.

Indeed, the traditional Zelda style labyrinths and mazes can be found here too, with names like the Suthorn Ruins. These mostly seem to play out like their counterparts in 2D Zelda games of old, and have interesting bosses at the end, such as the rock monster previously seen in the game’s reveal trailer.

So, if you’re disappointed that the Wild era games neglected the dungeon crawling aspect, or feel like something less terminal based is in order after the last two games…

It seems like you might be happy with how they’re handled here. They’re much more traditional than in BotW or TotK, and are far less breakable as a result.

It’s also got its own Twilight Realm like aspects too. That being, the ability to create enemies from the void and sic them on Zelda and co.

With said enemies being all kinds of familiar foes from throughout the series. We’ve got Moblins, Darknuts and Redeads like elsewhere in the game…

But also Lynels in the style of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. So, if you enjoyed fighting those guys in the recent 3D games, here’s your chance to battle them in that style in a 2D one as well.

Regardless, the Still World isn’t the only addition here.

No, there’s also Zelda’s Swordfighter form too.

Zelda Swordfighter Form

Zelda’s Swordfighter form in Echoes of Wisdom

This is a form Zelda can take when she picks up a Mysterious Sword, and it turns her into a copy of Link. In this form, she can use sword attacks to fight enemies until the timer runs out, at which point she’ll return to normal again.

It’s a creative way to put traditional swordplay in a Zelda focused game, though one that’s caused a bit of a divide between fans. After all, isn’t turning Zelda into a Link clone a bit of a cop out? Isn’t this just giving her Link’s abilities for the sake of easily setting up a physical combat system, at the expense of Zelda’s own powers?

Eh, maybe, but it’s an interesting concept nonetheless, and one we’ll have to wait and see to know the effects of in game.

But yeah, that’s the latest trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, complete with footage of the Still World and Zelda’s Swordfighter form.

So, what do you think of it? Are you excited to explore the rifts? Is Zelda having Link’s abilities under a timer a cool way to integrate different gameplay styles?

What other aspects of the game can you see in the trailer?
