Modder Adds ALBW Style Item Meter to Twilight Princess

Modder Adds ALBW Style Item Meter to Twilight Princess

In The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, one of the biggest changes to the Zelda formula was how items worked in the game. You see, instead of using separate arrows, bombs and other collectables, every item would instead run on a magic meter like bar. This would refill automatically every so often, and simplified combat to remove any and all resource management.

It was a neat system, and one which worked surprisingly well in said game.

Yet despite that, it never came back again. Instead, future remakes kept the same item mechanics as in their original titles, while both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom went back to having separate inventory counters for things like arrows and bombs.

But now, a fan named Captain Kitty Cat has decided to see how it’d work in another game. Why? Because they’ve now modded such a system into The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess too! Here’s a video showing it in action:

As you can see, everything now runs on a single item bar, just like it did in the 3DS game. Your bow, your bombs, your clawshot and boomerang… literally every item in Link’s arsenal is now tied to a single resource meter rather than its own mechanics.

It’s an interesting change of pace for sure, and one that completely overhauls how everything works in game. Now instead of being quick to use items but careful not to run out of them, you have to be cautious about using them with the benefit of being able to technically use them in infinite quantities instead.

So yeah, check it out if you’re interested. It’s a creative way to change up the Twilight Princess formula, and a fun merger of mechanics between two very different entries in the Zelda series.
