Back in September 2023, Nintendo seemingly finished with updates for Mario Kart Tour. In that month, they released the final tour for the game, with the last new karts and costumes to go along with it. It was a sad day for Tour fans, and a sign that yet another Nintendo mobile game was reaching its end.
However, it seems Nintendo may not actually be done with the game after all. Why? Because according to dataminers, references to new characters and karts have been recently added to the files, over 2 years after the last update to the game. Here’s a video about it by Mario Kart Tour expert and dataminer KoopaV:

As you can tell, the rumoured content comes in the form of a new character and 4 new karts. So, if it’s real, it’d be a smaller scale update or tour with a tiny amount of new stuff added.
And honestly? We can see it being legit here. Remember, Nintendo sees their mobile games as interactive billboards for their home console titles. A way to sell casual players on their big franchises prior to said players actually buying a Switch or Switch 2.
Hence, they’re no strangers to bringing them back to take advantage of that effect. See Super Mario Run for example. That game, all but stopped getting major updates in 2017, when the Switch 1 launched. Like with Mario Kart Tour, we believed it was dead from then on out. That apart from bug fixes, we’d see nothing else added to the game after that.
But like Mario Kart Tour here, we were mistaken. Suddenly, after years of silence, they released events for things like the Super Mario Bros Movie, Super Mario Bros Wonder and Princess Peach Showtime. Every major Mario spinoff from then on got statues and unlockables and achievements in run.
Because of this, it only makes sense something similar would happen here too. That to promote Mario Kart World, a few of the newcomers from that game would be added to Tour alongside a new kart or three. That way, people who don’t follow the news can find out about Mario Kart World and the Switch 2, and get a taster of what the new game has in store.
Still, that’s the latest from Mario Kart Tour. The game may not be dead, and might be getting a revival of some kind in the coming weeks.
So, what do you think? Will Mario Kart Tour really get new updates after all this time? And if so, what new characters and karts could be added to the roster?
