Insane Mario Odyssey Mod Recreates Mario Galaxy

Insane Mario Odyssey Mod Recreates Mario Galaxy

Here at Gaming Reinvented, we’ve seen some crazy mods over the years. Whether it’s Super Mario Sunshine hacks that triple the length of the game, or Super Mario 64 hacks that change the game’s entire genre, fans have created all sorts of amazing games using other Nintendo titles as a base.

But even with these high standards, there are some mods which make us question everything we know about the hobby. Some projects which are so insane that we question how they even work at all.

And today’s mod is a prime example of this. Why? Because out of nowhere, a team of modders have seemingly remade Super Mario Galaxy in Super Mario Odyssey’s engine. Named Super Mario Odyssey: A Galaxy Story, it remakes just about every aspect of the original in Odyssey’s engine. Here’s a trailer showing the mod in action:

As you can see, it’s more than just a level pack. It’s has everything.

Enemies? They’re here, including Cataquacks and Octoombas. Mechanics? Hell yeah, we’ve got flip switches and gravity and other insanity straight from the original game.

Heck, even the bosses are here! Yeah, we’ve got Dino Piranha and Bouldergeist in Odyssey somehow.

It’s utterly insane, and makes us question what we’re even seeing. Like, how is this possible? How is Mario Odyssey understood well enough to make this possible? How are we seeing what we’re actually seeing?

If it was Super Mario World or Super Mario 64, we’d get it. Heck, if it was Sunshine, we’d probably get it to a degree, given the success of mods like Sunshine.

But Odyssey is different. Odyssey is a newer game than any of those, and one where mods usually tended to be on the simpler side. You had custom levels, you had the odd extra feature, and that was it. It was a scene where Superstar Mode was the nearest thing to an impressive project.

So, to see something like this just boggles the mind. It just shatters our perception of the Mario Odyssey modding scene in every way.

Regardless, Super Mario Odyssey: A Galaxy Story will be released in 2025, and offer a full-blown Galaxy remake in the Odyssey engine with all the trimmings. But what do you think about it? Are you excited to try Mario Galaxy’s worlds with Odyssey movement and mechanics? What other games do you hope to see redone in Odyssey’s engine? And what other mods are you excited for in general?
