When it comes to recent video game releases, one of the craziest things we’ve noticed is how quick their content gets replicated by the modding community. We’ve seen Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario Bros Wonder mechanics remade in Super Mario World and Super Mario 64. The abilities from both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom have been fully recreated for Ocarina of Time.
Plus, just about every idea and mechanic from a modern Pokémon game has been backported to the older ones, no matter how unrealistic or insane it might be.
Yet despite all this, today’s announcement might be even crazier. Why? Because somehow, fans have already recreated tracks from Mario Kart World in older Mario Kart games, based on nothing more than trailer and event footage! Here’s Mario Bros Circuit in Mario Kart Wii for instance:

Yeah, there are already two entirely different versions of the track recreated for that game.
And surprisingly, they actually look pretty damn good as far as retro track recreations go. Okay, the texture quality is definitely a lot lower than in the Switch 2 game, and the scenery is not anywhere near as detailed for obvious reasons…
But practically speaking, they looks and plays exactly like the Switch 2 track. The layout is correct, the shortcuts work as expected, there are some attempts at recreating things like wall riding… honestly, for remakes released before the game even hit store shelves, they’re damn impressive.
There’s also an attempt at remaking Crown City too:

This one is a lot less polished than the Mario Bros Circuit ports, and seems to be in a much rougher state overall…
But again, layout wise it’s pretty damn impressive how close it gets to the original. Given it’s a fan made recreation made based on trailers and demo footage, and for a console released decades before Mario Kart World was even conceptualised by Nintendo… yeah, we’re surprised it even translated this well to be honest.
And it’s not just tracks that got backported here. No, the character roster did too.
With a video by YouTuber MarioPower55 showing just about the entire thing remade for Mario Kart 8. Here’s the video in question:

Yeah, we’ve got almost everything here. There’s a playable cow, a playable Cataquack, a playable Fishbone… Indeed, with the exceptions of the Conkdor, Coin Coffer and Biddybud, just about everything you can think of from Mario Kart World is now available in 8 too.
What’s more, they actually often look better than the Mario Kart World equivalents too, since the modders actually animated them properly and had them sit in/drive the car/bike. So not only has pretty much the entire World roster been redone in an older game, it’s arguably been done better too.
And Mario Kart Wii is no slouch in the character recreation department either. No, that one has not one, but two versions of the cow as a playable character. The better of which basically looks identical to the World one:

So yeah, modders have officially remade two tracks and half the cast list from Mario Kart World for older Mario Kart games. It’s kinda crazy to think about, and shows just how fast the community gets to work whenever a new game gets revealed to the public.
Still, what are your thoughts? Are you happy to see so many Mario Kart World elements redone for older games? How long do you think it’ll be until the Mario Kart Wii community remakes the entire track list for that game as well?
