In the last couple of years, video game adaptations have been both more more common and better in quality overall. Whether it’s the meteoric success of the Super Mario Bros Movie and Sonic film series, the animated spectacles that are Castlevania and Devil May Cry or various other planned projects in development, it’s clear that both Hollywood and the big streaming services are taking video games far more seriously than ever before.
And that pattern may only continue with today’s news. Why? Because it seems like there could be a Crash Bandicoot animated series on the way too.
Yep, according to various insiders and sites like What’s On Netflix, the streaming service has supposedly signed an agreement with Microsoft for a Crash Bandicoot TV series, with WildBrain Studios tackling the project. It’s exciting news if true, and one that should give fans a bit of confidence given the latter’s success with the Sonic Prime series in recent years.

Of course, given that the parties involved have been fairly silent on the matter, you should always take this with a grain of salt. There’s always a chance that the rumour is simply a fake, or that the rumoured series got scrapped at some point or another.
But personally, we’re gonna say it has a pretty good shot of being real. Why?
Well, it’s Crash Bandicoot that’s why. As much as we don’t often recognise it given our lack of experience with the series, it’s a popular franchise that’s sold record numbers in the past, with its recent revivals doing incredibly well in the Switch era. So, the audience demand is likely there for sure.
Plus, with the series already having gotten at least one animated pilot in the past:

And the characters and tone being very cartoony overall, it just feels like an obvious choice. A franchise that would work perfectly as an animated series, like so many others in its market.
So, it just feels right here. Like a good choice of franchise to adapt to capitalise on people’s nostalgia for the franchise, and bring back some of the hype for a new video game or two.
Regardless, what are your thoughts? Are talks of a Crash Bandicoot TV show legit? Is this really coming to Netflix in a few years? And if so, how would that affect the games themselves?
