Sadly, this is not a fan game or ROM hack. Nor is it a video by Nintendo showing what the next big open world Zelda game is going to be like.

Instead, it’s a video by a YouTuber called 16-Bit Dreams showing what a Wind Waker sequel in the Breath of the Wild engine could theoretically be like. A dream game that takes the cel shaded stylings of the GameCube classic, and uses it to reimagine the wild era formula in an all-new way.

And it is just incredible. Like damn, this video is absolutely insane.

Seriously, it has everything an old-school Zelda fan might want in a new game. Big, epic looking boss fights inspired by both the Wilds and classic era games? Check! Tetra as a playable character in some form? Check! The presence of the Minish and various other elements from the Minish Cap on GBA?

Hell yeah! This is basically our dream mash-up of Wind Waker, Minish Cap, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. The game that could probably take everything we loved about those games and dial them up to a hundred.

Alas, it’s only a concept. A beautiful one sure, but a concept nonetheless. A vision of a world we’ll almost certainly never get to experience for ourselves. A vision that Nintendo will almost certainly ignore in favour of something else.

Regardless, it looks incredible, so kudos to 16-Bit Dreams for their amazing work here. You’ve created a Zelda trailer on par with an official Nintendo one, and mocked up the kind of dream we’ve always wished existed.

Let’s just hope one day, something like it does actually became a reality.
