Well, it’s certainly the right time for announcing presentations, isn’t it? Because less than 24 hours after Nintendo announced a Partner Showcase Direct was airing this week, the Pokémon Company followed up with a Pokémon Presents one.
This one is airing on Pokémon Day on February 27th 2024, and will have more information about the series and its future games and media. Here’s the tweet about it from the official Twitter page:

So, what can we expect to see here?
Well, it’s hard to tell. On the one hand, it feels like a new remake or spinoff is just around the corner. After all, these games tend to come out every year or so at this point, and the last big one was released back in 2022 with Pokémon Legends: Arceus. So, we wouldn’t be surprised to see something similar planned for this year as well.
We also wouldn’t be surprised to see various smaller scale projects either. Again, they love releasing this on a yearly basis, with the series getting things like Pokémon Sleep, Pokémon Unite, Pokémon Masters, etc on a regular basis for the last decade or two. Hence there’s almost certainly something smaller scale like this on the horizon, if not multiple of them.
And we all know that other media is getting some sort of representation here too. The Trading Card Game, the Pokémon Horizons anime, smaller scale adaptations like Concierge (which we know actually has a season 2 in production) … it all seems very likely for this Presents.
Yet despite all this, there’s one thing we’re both hoping won’t happen, and somewhat resigned to knowing will probably happen anyway.
The next generation of Pokémon games.
Yeah, it’s inevitable at this point, isn’t it? They’re seemingly on a strict two-three-year timer no matter what, and it’ll have been two years since Scarlet and Violet’s reveal once this Pokémon Presents airs.
So, it seems like at best, we have another year before the next games are announced.
And that really worries us. Both Sword and Shield and Scarlet and Violet show that Game Freak is struggling to make good 3D games in the timespan allotted to them, and their sales indicate that many people don’t seem to care that this is the case. As a result, it feels almost certain that the next generation will either kick off this Pokémon Day with a gen 10 teaser, or will end up starting in 2025 on the dot. The series needs more development time damnnit, and at this rate, it seems like that’s a bit much to ask for.
Regardless, that’s what we expect to see in the Pokémon Presents next week. So, what do you think? Do you have any predictions for what we’ll see this time?
