When it comes to secrets in games, they tend not to last very long until people discover them. After all, datamining has been a thing for years at this point, with every new Mario, Zelda and Pokémon game falling to it in a matter of hours. As a result, anything not added by updates or DLC is likely to be known about right before a new game’s even been released.
But this wasn’t the case with older titles, especially not more obscure ones on older consoles. And that’s where today’s story comes in too.
why? Because after years of obscurity, a credits screen has been found in the GameCube Collector’s Edition of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, showing the staff who worked on the N64 emulator used by the game. Here’s a clip showing the menu being unlocked from Twitter user ZFG:

As well as the full list of inputs needed to reach said screen:
Hold L + R + Z, then press the following buttons:
- D-Pad Up
- D-Pad Up
- D-Pad Down
- D-Pad Down
- D-Pad Left
- D-Pad Right
- D-Pad Left
- D-Pad Right
- X
- Y
- B
- A
- D-Pad Up
- D-Pad Left
- D-Pad Down
- D-Pad Right
- A
- Start
Yeah, it’s basically the good ol’ Konami code, except with a few extra inputs at the end. Huh, who’d have expected that to end up in a Nintendo made game of all things?
Still, it’s awesome to see a discovery like that after all these years, especially for a game as well-known as Majora’s Mask. Here’s hoping some other interesting things get found in other games of around the same era too!
