Well folks, it’s nearly that time again! Yep, with the final wave of DLC being released for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe next Thursday, we’ve decided to celebrate with yet another tournament here at Gaming Reinvented.
This one will occur on Saturday 2nd December, and pit some of the best players in the world against each other for the chance to win the $200 grand prize. As per before, here are the rules for the tournament:

As expected, things are mostly the same as last time, and every other time before that. The prize is the same, the number of races are the same, most of the communities involved are the same, etc.
But it’s going to be more interesting than before for one simple reason: wave 6 will change up the game significantly.
Since in addition to adding 8 new courses, the DLC also adds four new characters, new Mii costumes and (most likely) tweaks to various existing tracks and kart combos too. Hence while the tournament structure will remain intact, the changes to the game itself should keep things exciting nonetheless.

FAQs
Note that we’ve removed most of these, since any that are the same as previous years can be found on any number of existing articles instead.
Regardless, here are a few new ones…
Are the new characters allowed?
Yes, the new characters and Mii costumes are allowed
Isn’t this a bit close to Christmas?
Eh, not really. The DLC is being released in November, and the tournament is happening at the start of December. That seems like a reasonable gap between the event and Christmas.
Will you host tournaments for Mario Kart 9/10?
Presumably? We do like the boost in community interest these events bring, and it gives us a reason to play online more than ever before. We’re sure the next Mario Kart game for the next system won’t change any of that.
Does this tournament meet Nintendo’s tournament guidelines?
As far as we know, yes. We will almost certainly have less players than the maximum allowed, none of these events are for profit, there are no entry fees, our branding is GR based rather than Nintendo based and we use Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s official online services (not as if there are any alternatives for Switch games anyway…)
Do you care much about said rules?
Not really. Not only are GR’s tournaments about as compliant with the rules as possible (simply because they’re run as free community events using official games and services), but we heavily doubt their legal validity anyway.
What happens if Nintendo shuts down the event?
The tournament doesn’t happen.
What if Mario Kart 8 Deluxe online shuts down before then?
See above. It’s very unlikely though; Nintendo doesn’t take down the servers for games before the next title/console has been out for a few years.
