Gaming Reinvented’s Halloween Cross Community Events Are Starting Soon!

Are you a Mario Kart pro? Or an expert ghost hunter skilled enough to clear the ScareScraper in Luigi’s Mansion 3? Think you can beat hundreds of players from across the gaming world at either of these games?

If so, maybe try the new Halloween events and tournaments that Gaming Reinvented is hosting this month! These include a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe tournament on October 17th (this Saturday), plus a Luigi’s Mansion 3 one on October 31st 2020! Both contests will have a $150 prize this time around.

As per usual, they’ll involve other communities too, with the following ones having shown interest in one or more of the tournaments:

Participating Communities

Most of these took part in the last one, but we’ve also expanded to a few more communities too.

Either way, here are the rules for each game:

Rules

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

  • Mode: 150cc Grand Prix
  • Teams: No Teams
  • Items: Normal Items
  • CPU: No CPU
  • Vehicles: All Vehicles
  • Smart Steering: Allowed
  • Active: Fixed Period
  • Start Date: October 17th 2020
  • Start Time: 8pm (BST)
  • End Date: October 17th 2020
  • End Time: 11:30pm (BST)
  • Races: 16

As you can tell, the rules are the same as last time. Basically, default settings, anything goes for characters, karts, tracks, etc.

Luigi’s Mansion 3

  • Floors: 20
  • Public: No

Whereas here the rules are as expected for a ScareScraper competition. Max floors, and the only people allowed to participate are those you’ve signed up for the game.

How to Enter

Regardless, here’s how to enter, since we’ve changed the process around for this event. Basically, each competition will have a sign up form. You can find these forms linked below:

These forms will provide us with the following information:

  • Your name on Discord
  • Your name on Nintendo Switch Online
  • Your friend code for Nintendo Switch Online
  • Plus for Luigi’s Mansion 3, whatever team mates you’re going to playing alongside

We’ll then either take this information and use it to credit the winner (Luigi’s Mansion 3), or do that and add it to our random draw.

Then on the day of the tournament, all entrants will have their names added into the ‘hat’ so to speak. From there, our randomiser will sort them into as many groups of 12 as possible, and each group will be invited to a friend room to participate in round 1.

After 16 races, this round will end, and the winners will be invited to the finals.

There they’ll do another 16 races, and then we’ll know the winners for this tournament.

FAQ

How do I enter?

Fill out the relevant form above, and then become a member of at least one participating community.

Is that necessary?

Yes, because it’s a community event. A way to see which community’s members are the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe/Luigi’s Mansion 3 champs!

Are there any restrictions once I’ve joined?

Nope.

How can I talk about the event?

Join the Gaming Reinvented community, and join the voice chat we’ve set up for the tournaments. There will be both a shoutbox for text messages, and a voice chat channel for well, spoken messages.

So are there restrictions on what I can use in game?

In both cases, no.

Are alternate costumes allowed in Luigi’s Mansion 3?

Of course. Just note that in a competition, some floor themes might be quicker to clear than others…

What characters, karts, tracks etc are allowed in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?

As said in the rules, all of them are fine.

So, how do the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe brackets work?

Basically, we get every entrant’s name, and put them into a randomiser. Then, that randomiser splits the list into random groups of 12.

That’s how we decide who races who in round 1.

What if the number of entrants doesn’t divide neatly by 12?

Then presumably the last group has less people in it. This isn’t a great situation, but hey, it’s an unavoidable one.

Why 16 races per round?

It’s a nice number, and takes less time than the last tournament setup did. That one took way too long.

What happens if someone quits in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?

Anyone who quits gets disqualified, and comes last in their round.

What about in Luigi’s Mansion 3?

Then their team continues without them. Whether that’s better or worse… who knows.

How about if the whole team quits/gets disconnected?

Time to start again. Obviously this will mean you will take longer to clear 20 floors…

What if they lose?

Then they can either try again until they win, or give up.

Are there any rules against cheating?

Sure, but as per before, it depends what you count as that. Anything that doesn’t involve external tools or software is fine, but anything that modifies the game itself is not.

Of course, I doubt Luigi’s Mansion 3 even has any of this stuff…

Can I record or livestream the tournament?

Absolutely. Anyone can record or livestream the tournament, no matter what game is involved.

How do you know I didn’t cheat in Luigi’s Mansion 3’s ScareScraper, given I didn’t record the whole run?

Honestly we don’t. For all we know, you could have started two hours earlier and left it on the results screen until the tournament started.

But… What’s the alternative? We can’t require every team to have a capture card or live streaming software, and we know most people are decent, honest folk. So we’ll take your word for it.

In Luigi’s Mansion 3, how many people can be on each team?

Any number between 1 and 4.

How does the prize money work for that?

It’s split between the team.

So I’m incentivised to play alone?

Well, you can look at it that way.

But at the same time, you need to ask yourself this; can I win a 20f ScareScraper game on my own? Can I clear it as quickly on my own as with a team?

In most cases, the answer is no. In most cases, a well coordinated, clever team of friends/associates can demolish the ScareScraper and clear out its ghosts far more quickly and easily than any one person can.

So… ask yourself what team size has the best chance of winning while balancing the prize fund, and go from there.

Are you going to compete in this tournament?

You mean CM30?

Well it depends. I’ll compete in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe tournament against other people, but not for money.

However, I won’t play online with anyone in the Luigi’s Mansion 3 one. That’s because my presence will unfairly help/disadvantage a team, and cause that team to potentially win/lose the prize money.

Hang on, what if a Luigi’s Mansion 3 team starts late?

Then we’ll use their initial posting time and their final posting time to work out how long they took.

So the winner won’t be decided instantly there?

Nah, probably not. We’ll decide either once 5 hours have passed since the tournament began, or once a team finishes the game, whatever works.

How does the winner receive their prize?

By whatever means they want to receive it once the respective tournament ends.

Can my community take part too?

Sure, contact us about this any way you can. Also tell us which tournaments you want to take part in, whether it’s Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Luigi’s Mansion 3 or both.
