Nintendo Shutting Down DS and Wii Wifi Services

So if you’re still playing Mario Kart DS or Wii online, or involved in a bunch of Smash Bros Brawl battles against people from round the world, then those days are about to come to a screeching stop.  Same with online play in the generation 4 and 5 Pokemon titles.

These services will end for good worldwide on May 20th. Keep reading to see a full list of every service and game getting the proverbial chop…

The Mario Kart Channel, Kirby TV Channel and Wii Speak Channel are also being shut down.
The Wii Shop channel, Youtube app, Internet Channel, web browsers and a few others aren’t affected.  This should be kind of obvious to most people given how the web browsers on Nintendo consoles don’t actually need to connect to Nintendo servers.

All in all, it’s the end of the era.  No more DS or Wii games will have working online multiplayer after May of this year, meaning that the last generation has now well and truly been brought to a close.

So what do you think?  Will any of these shut downs affect you?
