Okay, the New Nintendo 3DS Commercial is Just Weird

Well, the Japanese one anyway.  Just have a look at this:

What the hell are with those silly costumes the Nintendo characters are wearing?  Why does Link look something like Willy Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?  Is Bowser a hipster?  What in [whoever’s] name is going on here?

Nintendo, your Japanese ads were always a bit strange before, but this takes the biscuit.

Wow, Japan really wants Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire!

See that picture above?  That’s the crowd waiting outside the Pokemon Centre in Japan to pre order the gen 3 remakes.   Yes really.  They’re not lining up to actually buy the games, just to pre order the damn things.

That’s some impressive level of popularity for two games that haven’t even been released yet. It’s like if you had people waiting to simply get their receipt for the new iPhone, just to come back in a few weeks and actually pick up.  Crazy.

What do you think of this level of popularity?

Super Smash Bros for 3DS Sells a Million Copies

All within the first two days of going on sale in Japan too, something which is highly impressive (for comparison, Pokemon Black and White only sold double that in a similar timeframe).

However, I will say one thing.  While the success of the 3DS version is  a great thing to see, it’s honestly not something that’s too unexpected.  After all, the 3DS itself is the best selling system of the generation over in Japan, and every single big game on the console has been a break out success in the region.  The real test is actually whether the Wii U version sells anywhere near as well.  Whether Super Smash Bros for Wii U can save a dying console in the same way that Mario Kart 8 has kind of done already.

Looks Like Even Japanese Gamers hate Paper Mario Sticker Star!

Yeah, we know it’s become a bit of a cliche to bash this game.  But do you want to know how unpopular Miyamoto’s changes were?

Japanese gamers are calling it kusoge because of them.

No, I’m not kidding.  A popular wiki there listing such games (kusoge means infamously bad games deemed utterly broken in every way) actually lists Paper Mario Sticker Star as an example, complete with what must about 10 pages of complaints about the design, story, characters, concepts and just about everything else.  What’s more, they’re the same complaints as those brought up by Western fans of the Paper Mario series, indicating that just about everyone agrees that the changes made were for the worse.

Want to see what else they had to say about this game?  Here’s a link…

But what do you think?  Kind of fitting that even Japanese fans of terrible games count Sticker Star as a potential example of one?

Oh hey, Japanese Pokemon fans can win another special Edition 3DS System…

In a raffle.  That you get an entry for by spending over 1000 yen at the Denny’s and Famil family of restaurants in Japan.  Apparently, there are ten of said systems to be won via the raffle, and another five to be won via an email campaign on the official website.  Here’s a picture of the system design in question:

As you can see, it’s a pretty nice design!  Decent colour scheme, decent styling around the edges, a pretty neat picture showing off Yveltal and Xerneas (alongside Ash and Pikachu from the Pokemon anime series).  Pity it’ll never be released to the public, or made available to buy or win outside of Japan.

So yeah, what do you think?  Are you a bit jealous that Japanese Pokemon fans are getting yet another exclusive 3DS XL design?  Do you wish Nintendo would sell these outside of Japan, like through Club Nintendo or something?  If so, post your thoughts here or at Nintendo 3DS Community.com now!
